Dr.
Hang Hubert Yin is currently a Professor and Deputy Dean of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Tsinghua University. After studying for a bachelor's degree at Peking University, he received his PhD from Yale University in 2004 under the supervision of Professor Andrew Hamilton and then spent a post-doctoral period at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine with Professor William DeGrado. Prior to joining Tsinghua, he was a tenured faculty member of the University of Colorado Boulder. His research interests lie at the interface of chemistry, biology, and engineering with particular focuses on structure-based drug design, cell signaling biochemistry, biotechnology development, and membrane protein simulations. Professor Yin is a recipient of many accolades for his research in chemical biology and drug discovery, including the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, American Chemical Society David W. Robertson Award for Excellence in Medicinal Chemistry, CAPA Distinguished Junior Faculty Award, NSF CAREER Award, AACR Gertrude B. Elion Cancer Research Award, Sidney Kimmel Scholars Award, and HHMI Collaborative Innovation Award among others.
讲座摘要/Abstract:
The protein-protein, protein−nucleic acid, and protein-lipid interfaces have been regarded as “undruggable” despite their importance in many biological processes. The toll-like receptors (TLRs) provide exciting targets for a number of autoimmune diseases, infectious diseases, pain management, and cancers. Using multidisciplinary approaches, we have successfully developed novel exogenous small molecule probes that were shown to be competitive inhibitors or activators of various TLRs with high affinity and specificity. Some of the lead compounds are currently in the pipeline for further drug discovery. Secondly, an emerging cancer metastasis biomarker that possesses tremendous potential is the exosomes and microvesicles secreted by cancerous cells. However, the secretion of exosomes and microvesicles cannot be monitored using traditional detection methods due to their small sizes. We developed an innovative strategy to detect and target various metastatic cancers using rationally designed peptide probes that recognize highly curved surface of exosomes and microvesicles. These peptide probes also render novel tools to selectively target cancer cells with specific lipid compositions and distributions.
