讲座摘要/Abstract:

Plant polyphenols, the fourth largest biomass resource after cellulose, hemicelluloses, and lignin, are abundant, naturally occurring bioproducts. Their multifaceted characteristics in molecular structures and chemical properties make them an attractive resource for biomass conversion, enabling innovation across multidisciplinary fields. Our research explored that plant polyphenols can be used as building blocks for the creation of metal-organic assembled materials (Sci Adv 2021; Angew Chem 2014, 2019, 2023; Chem Mater 2023). This highly interdisciplinary research has generated a broad impact on multidisciplinary goals, from providing advanced therapies to challenging diseases (ACS Nano 2023; Adv Funct Mater 2019, 2020; Adv Sci 2019; Biomaterials 2020, 2021), environmental technologies (Energy Environ Sci 2019; Environ Sci Technol 2023), water treatment (Matter 2022; Adv Mater 2023), and beyond. Polyphenols can be used for particle engineering which provides an exceptionally easy and modular tool for the nanoengineering of materials (Nat Nanotechnol 2016), which further offers a cellular engineering platform for biohybrids (Science 2018) and cell-based therapy (Nat Commun 2022; Adv Mater 2020). Our research is shaping the future picture of plant biomass conversion and providing numerous new thoughts and innovations to multidisciplinary communities.
