主讲人/Speaker:

Yipeng Jing is a professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). His research is mainly on the formation and evolution of galaxies and on the large-scale structures in the Universe. He got his PhD from the International School for Advanced Studies, Italy in 1992. He had worked for 12 years as a professor at Shanghai Astronomical Observatory before he moved to SJTU in 2012. He was elected to a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2015, became the founding director of the Department of Astronomy in SJTU in 2017, and served as the President of the Chinese Astronomical Society from 2018 to 2022.

讲座摘要/Abstract:

S8 tension is one between the measurements from developed structures (z<1) and undeveloped ones (CMB; z=1100). We study this problem by developing a novel method to measure the lensing magnification of BOSS CMASS galaxies, and show that our derived S8 is in perfect agreement with the Planck S8. Furthermore, I will show that existing weak lensing and CMB lensing observations of BOSS galaxies in literature are also in agreement with the Planck S8. I will attribute the successful resolutions to our better understanding of the BOSS galaxies in their relation to dark matter halos and their observational incompleteness. I will finally briefly discuss the S8 problem in a broader context.
