主讲人/Biography:

Dr. Wenbin Lin is the James Franck Professor of Chemistry, Radiation and Cellular Oncology, and the Ludwig Center for Metastasis Research. He is also a member of Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Chicago. Dr. Lin obtained his BS from the University of Science and Technology in Hefei, China and his PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign under the mentorship of Professors Ralph G. Nuzzo and Gregory S. Girolami. He then pursued postdoctoral research as a National Science Foundation Fellow with Professor Tobin J. Marks at Northwestern University.

Dr. Lin’s research efforts focus on designing molecular materials for sustainability and human health. He has published over 470 peer-reviewed articles with >86,000 citations. His lab pioneered metal-organic framework (MOF) catalysts for various transformations and developed nanoscale MOFs for biomedical applications, with several of these innovations progressing to clinical trials. Recognized among the most cited chemists since 2014, he was also ranked among the top 10 chemists of the 1999–2009 decade based on per-article citations.

Dr. Lin is the founder of two clinical stage biopharmaceutical companies and has received numerous professional honors for his contributions to functional molecular materials. He is an elected fellow of American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, National Academy of Inventors, and European Academy of Sciences.

摘要/Abstract:

Lipid nanoparticles have significantly advanced cancer therapy over the past several decades. However, their limited tunability and stability present challenges in addressing unmet oncology needs. Leveraging synthetic chemistry and nanotechnology, the Lin group has developed novel classes of molecular nanomaterials, including nanoscale metal-organic frameworks (nMOFs) and nanoscale coordination polymers (NCPs), to enhance cancer treatment. This talk will highlight recent efforts in designing NCPs and nMOFs that incorporate multiple therapeutics or treatment modalities for chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and immunotherapy of resistant cancers. These biodegradable nanomaterials offer a nontoxic platform for delivering a broad range of potent anticancer agents (including platins, taxanes, nucleic acids, and peptides) to tumors. Their high therapeutic payloads and improved tumor-targeting efficiency reduce toxicity to normal cells while enhancing antitumor efficacy. The clinical translation of representative systems will also be discussed.
